WHAT DOES EACH COUNCIL POSITION DO?

Year Representatives

  • Listen to the concerns of their fellow classmates and direct them to the appropriate resource or SLS member

  • Table agenda items for SLS Council meetings to have the issues discussed and potentially voted on

  • Attend monthly Council meetings

  • Host office hours - two hours each week in a hybrid format

Faculty Council Representatives

  • Listen to the concerns of their classmates regarding academic issues, suggestions about faculty and curriculum, and bring these to monthly Faculty Council meetings

  • Table relevant proposals or agenda items for future meetings

  • Attend monthly Faculty Council meetings between SLS and faculty as a voting member

  • Attend monthly SLS Council meetings and report decisions made at Faculty Council

  • Host office hours - two hours each week in a hybrid format

Discipline Committee Representatives

  • Meet with faculty members and assist with making decisions regarding the academic discipline of law students as laid out by Windsor Law’s Discipline Policy, in camera (in private)

  • Representatives attend Discipline Committee meetings when called by the Faculty Chair (as needed)

  • Discipline Representatives can attend SLS meetings but are not voting members of SLS Council, and as such do not have to attend meetings nor host office hours

Vice President, Equity & Diversity

  • A member of the Executive subcommittee (see By-Law V)

  • Ensures all student voices at Windsor Law are respected by the SLS and the Windsor Law administration

  • Bring forward issues relating to equity and diversity at Windsor Law to SLS meetings and assist in making policy recommendations to the administration

  • Work closely with clubs, committees, and the UWSA to ensure students feel safe and respected

  • Host office hours - two hours each week in a hybrid format

Vice President, Finance

  • A member of the Executive subcommittee (see By-Law V)

  • Listen to the concerns of the students and direct them to the appropriate resource or SLS member

  • Table agenda items for SLS Council meetings to have the issues discussed and potentially voted on

  • Attend monthly Council meetings and give a report to Council concerning finances

  • Host office hours - two hours each week in a hybrid format

  • Receive, deposit, and account for all SLS monies

  • Pay all SLS disbursements

  • Prepare a yearly budget, Statement of Accounts, and audit report

  • Meet with all committee chairs at the beginning of both semesters (once each) to outline accounting procedures

Vice President, Operations

  • A member of the Executive subcommittee (see By-Law V)

  • Listen to the concerns of the students and direct them to the appropriate resource or SLS member

  • Table agenda items for SLS Council meetings to have the issues discussed and potentially voted on

  • Attend monthly Council meetings and give a monthly report to Council

  • Host office hours - two hours each week in a hybrid format

  • Supervise and coordinate SLS committees, report to Council on the committees

  • Coordinate all fundraising events undertaken by any SLS committee or club

  • Act as administrative overseer for SLS Facebook and social media accounts

  • Send out Weekly Announcement emails to the student body

Vice President, Academic

  • A member of the Executive subcommittee (see By-Law V)

  • Listen to the concerns of the students and direct them to the appropriate resource or SLS member

  • Table agenda items for SLS Council meetings to have the issues discussed and potentially voted on

  • Attend monthly Council meetings and give a monthly report to Council

  • Host office hours - two hours each week in a hybrid format

  • Assist members of SLS in any grievance held against Faculty or University

  • Sit as a member of Faculty Council and report to Council on its decisions

  • Sits as member of Admissions Committee, Appointments Committee, and Academic Program Committee

President

  • A member of the Executive subcommittee (see By-Law V)

  • Attend monthly Council meetings and give a monthly report to Council

  • Work with the Chair to call Council meetings and set/prepare the agenda

  • Meet weekly with Dean/Associate Dean/Assistant Dean, Faculty, clubs/committee members

  • Sit on Discipline Committee, Faculty Council, Academic Committees (ie RTP /Appointments), other committees struck throughout the year by faculty and the University

  • Work closely with UWSA

  • Address student concerns and needs
