Election Candidates
Leah Bracey -SLS PRESIDENT
I am honoured to ask for your vote in the upcoming SLS Election for the role of President. I am a passionate, creative and resourceful individual who is keen to make a meaningful impact in my final year. I have had the best years of my life here and I want to help you do the same!
My previous experience and involvement in the Windsor Law community has prepared me for this role. Prior to law school I worked in the communications/marketing sector in a variety of environments ranging from a worldwide marketing agency to a small, localized non-profit. In these roles, I learned how to communicate effectively and efficiently and gained experience managing complex and overlapping projects. Since arriving at Windsor Law, I have put these skills to use to support our community. This year, I served as the SLS Communications Officer, where I created content for SLS social channels and managed individual communications through them. I also supported the Old & Wise Law Students’ of Windsor as VP Communications, and the Windsor chapter of Women & The Law as a social chair. In February, I was awarded the Student Law Society Award for my contributions and leadership in extracurriculars. These experiences have allowed me to gain an understanding and appreciation for how SLS clubs operate. They also inspired me to play a more central role in the Windsor Law community next year!
I have three central objectives I hope to meet during the 2025/26 school year. First, I will take a holistic “360” approach at improving the Windsor Law experience, keeping an open mind about the kinds of problems the SLS can solve and how we can solve them. I want to support Windsor Law students in all areas that are likely to improve their experience here – including health and wellness, social connections, and academic/career development. My second objective is to make long-lasting law school memories for students and foster a cohesive Windsor Law community. I believe both individual student success and the long-term strength of the Windsor Law network will be improved by championing a collective identity and school pride. Finally, I want to maximize the reach and success of existing Windsor Law opportunities and resources with a process-driven approach to create consistency and cohesion. I believe this approach is essential to making sure that operations run smoothly and that the student body can count on SLS representatives for consistency and clarity. I am eager to expand on my vision for the SLS at the All-Candidates debate on Wednesday at 6 PM.
See you there and thank you in advance for your consideration!
MITCHELL GARBER - VP of events
Hi everyone! My name is Mitchell Garber, and I am excited to run for Vice President of Events for the Student Law Society (SLS). Events are essential for fostering connections and enhancing student life at Windsor Law. With my background in event coordination and student leadership, I am confident that I can bring fresh, dynamic, and inclusive events to our community.
As Game Day Manager for the Niagara River Lions, I oversaw the organization and planning of all game days and assisted in the overseeing of business affairs throughout all team departments, contributing to the first undefeated home season in league history and the franchise’s first championship. At the Canadian Football League (CFL), I supported league-wide events, managed key databases, and participated in disciplinary reviews weekly to ensure all affiliated personnel complied with league standards. Additionally, as Vice President of the Brock Sport Management Council, the executive body for Brock’s largest academic program with over 1,000 students, I collaborated with faculty, the events committee, and external partners to coordinate events that enhanced student engagement and professional development. These experiences have strengthened my ability to plan and execute high-quality events, adapt to evolving challenges, and create lasting experiences that bring everyone together.
I believe that law school goes beyond case law and exams; it is about the experiences we create outside the classroom. Networking, social events, and experiential learning complement our academic journeys and play a crucial role in shaping well-rounded legal professionals. As your VP of Events, I will support our 40+ active SLS clubs, which play a vital role in shaping our law school experience, by empowering these organizations and providing the support and resources they need to thrive. I aim to bring events that cater to our diverse student body, from networking opportunities to social gatherings, ensuring they are welcoming and inclusive in collaboration with the VP of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion. If elected, I am committed to creating memorable events that foster connection and celebrate our diversity while enriching the Windsor Law experience. Let’s work together to elevate student life, empower student leadership, and engage with our community. FAVID ALMASI - PRESIDENT
Hello all, my name is David. I am a 2L student running for president. I have all the traits requisite to serve as your president due to my background working to survive in Windsor, followed by my public service work when I decided to go legit and enroll at Windsor Law. All my experience is grounded in work ethic, perseverance, and fighting for something bigger than myself. Having no experience in student government I think there is a benefit from having someone with that kind of outside perspective because I can bring a unique direction to things.
My goals as president are based on what we deserve. We deserve a building with consistent and comfortable climate. We deserve better course selection. We deserve better access to our buildings and better administrative processes. We deserve someone who will advocate on our behalf. I am confident, and have shown to the ones who have witnessed, that I am that person. All I need is your vote to make it happen. If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. You can ask me about my platform here: almasid@uwindsor.ca but if you see me in person its always better to have a conversation :).
ALANCIA (AJ) jEFFREY - VP ACADEMICS
Hi everyone, my name is Alancia Jeffery, but most of you know me as AJ! As my first year of law school comes to a close, I’ve been reflecting on the incredible growth I’ve witnessed in myself, my friends, and my peers. It’s been an honor to serve as your 1L Single Council Representative, and I’m excited to announce my candidacy for Vice President of Academics (VPA).
The VPA role is all about creating a supportive academic environment, advocating for students, and being a reliable resource. It’s a position that requires someone who is approachable, proactive, and unafraid to navigate difficult conversations with faculty and administration — qualities that I possess and am eager to bring to the role.
My experience leading initiatives like the Community Care Collective and my role as a mentor for student-athletes at the University of British Columbia have strengthened my organizational and communication skills. I’ve also developed a strong sense of empathy and dedication through years of work as a lifeguard, where I learned to adapt to diverse needs and support people through various challenges.
As Vice President of Academics, I aim to help students, whether it’s assisting with the transition into law school or advocating on behalf of students with faculty and administration. I believe in a collaborative leadership approach, where, together with my fellow executives and council members, we can create a positive and inclusive academic experience for all. My goal is to foster an environment where every student feels supported in their academic journey, ensuring success, well-being, and a true sense of belonging at Windsor Law
Brian brady - vp academics
Hi everyone! My name is Brian Brady, and I am hoping to be elected as your new VP Academic. I’ve been actively involved in student leadership since undergrad, where I served as a student rep in the Faculty of Arts. Over the past year, I’ve worked closely with the former VP Academic to help resolve academic concerns, gaining valuable insight into what it means to be an effective and compassionate advocate for students. Through my work with SLS and student groups like DSLSW, I’ve built strong relationships with faculty and administration, and I’m committed to using those connections to push for meaningful academic change.
I believe in making advocacy accessible, inclusive, and action-driven. Whether it’s improving how accessibility accommodations are handled, strengthening support for Dual JD students, or helping all students better understand the path from law school to licensing, I’m passionate about creating systems that actually work for us. This role isn’t just about attending meetings it’s about showing up, speaking up, and ensuring that every Windsor Law student feels supported from day one through to be Called to the Bar.
