The Environmental Law Society (ELS) is a student-run club with two main goals: facilitating environmental advocacy and providing Windsor's law students with opportunities to explore careers and projects related to environmental law. Our focus is shifting from social events (though these will still happen) to exploring how to better understand and contribute to environmental scholarship, participating in relevant competitions such as the Willms & Shier Environmental Law Moot, as well as sharing pragmatic information on practices and contemporary developments in relevant fields.
Climate change is a complex global crisis and a major source of political/legal contention. Subsequently it is one of the most difficult challenges we face today. It is ubiquitous, nebulous, and increasingly relevant to the next generation of lawyers. This crisis does not impact everyone in the same way or to the same extent; there is much injustice in how our world is interfacing with this challenge as there are too many voices left unheard and not advocated for. The pursuit of environmental justice also often forces us to recognize the shortcomings of our legal frameworks, and as such these relevant fields serve as spaces in which difficult and groundbreaking structural and philosophical analyses often occur.
Our goal is to build community, to educate, and to support each other while we advocate for creating and regulating better relationships with our environment on both a local and global scale, and all the work that may encompass.

Harm Reduction Project (HARP) Windsor
Co-President: Emily Kydd
Co-President: Meg Gregoire
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/harpwinlaw/?igshid=YTQwZjQ0NmI0OA%3D%3D
The Harm Reduction Project at Windsor Law aims to build awareness and knowledge about harm reduction, including the practical aspects of harm reductive practices, as well as the broader applications of harm reductive models and uses in our communities and throughout Canadian society.
In 2022, 20 Canadians died every day from overdoses, a mortality rate which affects every individual and touches every life in our community. Stigma, a toxic drug supply, and the criminalization of certain drugs lead to these deaths. Vulnerable people who are already marginalized by complex barriers like addiction, trauma, insecure housing or shelter, and general poverty experience these deaths and the lack of safe options the most. As future lawyers, many Windsor Law graduates may be in positions where knowledge, understanding and empathy for people who use drugs, who live in poverty, and who generally face barriers that many law students themselves have never experienced nor may be aware of, is crucial. This project aims to increase understanding of harm reduction as a concept and its role in daily lives across the Windsor law student body through partnerships with our local social service organizations; practical Narcan training workshops; higher level consideration of harm reduction as a methodology of social development in areas other than drug use and decriminalization; and the legal complexities experienced by people who use drugs through knowledge sharing events.
Join us to learn more about harm reduction as a philosophy that can be applied to so many facets of our daily lives and how harm reduction not only saves lives but makes all communities safer and healthier.

Hispanic/Latinx Law Student Association
President: Laura di Taranto & Ximena Bailly-Alvarado
Hola!
HLLSA’s goal is to expose students to Latin culture, food, language, music, and dance. HLLSA is about growing and fostering connections within the Latin legal community, a community that is small in numbers. The Law Society of Ontario’s 2016 Annual Report indicated that only 0.6% of the respondents identified as Latin American, Hispanic. In other words, Hispanic membership with the Law Society of Ontario accounts only for a fraction of a percent. But, as a club, we believe that although we may be small in numbers we are a strong and resilient group. Ultimately, HLLSA’s goal for the future is to mentor and foster Latin youth interested in a legal-related career and contribute to their sense of community and connection to the small, but mighty, Latin legal community.
Hasta luego!
