The Academic Planning Committee is chaired by the Associate Dean and consists of faculty, staff, and two student members. The work done on the committee includes:
Curriculum Planning - looking at long-term changes at Windsor law and looking at what should and shouldn't be mandatory courses
Course Approval - approving new courses
Program Approval - approving new programs at Windsor Law, such as graduate studies and Fall reading week
The recommendations of the committee go to the Faculty Council, where they are voted on.
This is a great committee if you’re interested in making your mark on the courses taught here at Windsor Law and enjoy working with staff and faculty to make it happen.

The Admissions Committee is chaired by the Associate Dean and is comprised of faculty, staff, and student members. Committee members assist the faculty in selecting students for the class of 2023.
This is a great committee if you are passionate about the longevity of Windsor Law and the success of its student body. Due to the importance of this role, candidates should be aware of the significant time commitment this role entails.
Alumni Development Committee

The Alumni Development Committee provides support for and coordination with the Alumni Development Officer and the Dean in their programs and initiatives.
This a great committee if you’re interested to meet Windsor Law Alumni and work with faculty to create outreach programs and initiatives.

Asklaw contacts newly admitted students over the summer via telephone or email. Committee members speak to incoming students regarding Windsor Law and their experiences and answer any questions the new students have. It’s their first chance to speak with a Windsor Law student who just went through what they will be experiencing starting September. The conversations are often gratifying and rewarding and provides you with the ability to make a positive first impression on the incoming first year class!
This is a great committee if you’re outgoing and interested to take part in welcoming the class of 2025.
Career Development Advisory Committee

CDA organizes peer-run events and workshops for students seeking summer and articling positions. CDA Focuses on interviewing skills, resume and cover letter drafting, and networking opportunities for students. Previously, the CDA has run mock OCI day and a mock reception. Some responsibilities include finding upper year volunteers to run mock interviews as well as assisting career services with planning a mock reception. They also play a vital role in helping career services with planning career day.
This position if great if you are personable and enjoy helping peers find meaningful employment.
Clinical Liaison

The clinic liaison works with students that are working at a clinic for credit and with the Clinical and Experiential Learning Coordinator. The main role of the clinical liaison is to advocate for the students at the clinic. The role involves:
Represent students fairly and effectively in relation to academic and non-academic issues which arise at the clinics
Participate in negotiation and grievance procedures on behalf of, and when requested, with an aggrieved student
Bring forward policy issues that concern students at the clinics to both the School administration and the clinics’ management
Report to the SLS on issues and progress made within the clinics
This position is ideal for an individual who has previously done clinic for credit and understands how to navigate this system.
External Outreach Committee

The External Outreach Committee focuses most of its time on the Downtown Mission by raising money and awareness for the organization. The committee organizes various initiatives and activities to fundraise for the Downtown Mission of Windsor this includes candy gram sales, trivia night at a local pub and march madness. External Outreach also partners with clubs and other organizations to collect donated clothes for the Downtown Mission. For the 2022-2023 academic year External Outreach will also be responsible to organize Windsor Law’s 3 on 3 charity basketball tournament.
Ideal for individuals who want to make a difference in the Windsor-Essex community.
Finance Committee
2024/2025 Chair:
The Finance Committee will assist the VP Finance in the financial management of the SLS including setting up CheddarUp pages, funds disbursements, helping clubs and committees set up event ledgers, tracking spending, and reviewing ledgers.
This committee is ideal for individuals who are good with Excel and have a basic understanding of accounting/financial principles.

The Windsor Law formal committee is responsible for organizing the end-of-year formal which is usually held in March. This includes: booking a venue, booking a decorator and selecting a theme, booking photographers, booking the DJ, coordinating a team of student volunteers to design tickets, posters and other decor materials, organizing ticket sales, and maintaining a spreadsheet with all information for the venue (names, table numbers, menu choices, dietary restrictions, etc.). Formal is open to all law students and faculty to attend.

The Grad Committee is responsible for planning and organizing events over the summer as well as throughout the year. These include:
Grad photo information
Convocation information (for the day of, hotels, etc.)
Grad Awards (nominations for awards by fellow class members)
Grad Brunch/Lunch/Dinner
Grad Gift (the money raised at Grad Awards, Grad Lunch, and joint social goes towards this)
Any other events the committee/chair decides to run to fundraise grad gifts.
The Grad Committee is also responsible for putting together the Windsor Law Yearbook for graduates.
This position is ideal for individuals who are organized and interested in leading initiatives for the graduating class of 2023.
Headnotes Committee

The Headnotes Editors are responsible draft, edit and distribute the law school newsletter which will also be posted on the SLS website. Headnotes is a monthly publication that highlights interesting news and events going on at Windsor Law and the Windsor-Essex/Detroit communities. This Windsor Law run paper highlights student achievement (both academic and personal), and delivers unconventional news that the student body will find interesting, informative, and relevant. The SLS is hoping to revamp this student run paper for the 2022-2023 academic year.
This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy journalism and creative writing.
Justice at Work Committee

Justice at Work is the primary voice of those interested in public-interest forms of employment at Windsor Law. Committee members work alongside career services to host networking opportunities, career information seminars, and a medium through which to get involved with public interest opportunities.
This position is ideal for students interested in working in public-interest jobs.
Mental Health Awareness Committee

This committee hosts events which address mental health issues within the legal profession. The aim is to raise awareness through events such as Bell Let’s Talk Day and Recess, while also providing support and resources to students dealing with mental health challenges.
This position is ideal for individuals who are knowledgeable about mental health issues.
Merchandise Committee

The Merchandise committee is responsible for designing, ordering and selling various merchandise with the Windsor law logo. They work in conjunction with Women and the Law on the official Windsor Law apparel with proceeds going to a local charity. Previous ideas have included business cards, mugs and tumblers, but new ideas and creativity are welcomed! For the 2022-2023 year merchandise will be added to the new SLS website, the Merchandise Committee will therefore have an added responsibility this academic year of the inaugural launch of the online store.
This position is ideal for individuals who are creative and have an eye for fashion.
Mooting Committee

The Mooting Committee has engaged in efforts to promote volunteering and participation in competitive moots. The committee is also responsible for organizing help sessions and providing support for first-year students with their LRW moots as well as helping students who are enrolled or want to take part in another moot.
This a great committee if you’re passionate about mooting and helping fellow peers succeed in their moots.
Multi-fest Committee

Multi-fest, is usually held in second semester and allows students to experience Windsor Law's various cultural clubs through food, music and fun conversation. This is usually followed by a "multicultural" social in the evening. The committee is responsible to organize this event by working with all the cultural clubs at Windsor Law.
This position is ideal for individuals who advocate for multiculturalism.
Sexual Assault Awareness Committee

This committee focuses on legal strategies and advocacy approaches to effectively confront sexual assault in the civil and criminal justice system. The committee also hosts numerous events and workshops to break the silence on sexual assault. One notable event is the self-defence workshop.
This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about educating fellow peers on sexual assault issues and creating safe spaces.
SLS Administrator

The SLS Administrator attends all SLS meetings, including emergency meetings, takes minutes, perfects minutes, circulates minutes and works with the webmaster.
SLS Chair

The SLS CHAIR oversees the SLS Council meetings, ensuring that matters are dealt with and moved through efficiently. Meetings can run long, so it is the Chair's responsibility to set timelines for each topic as by-laws indicate that we cannot run longer than 2 hour meetings. The Chair will work with the SLS Administrator to book meeting rooms and send out agendas. The Chair is responsible for ensuring meeting minutes are posted online once ratified. Robert's Rules of Order are followed.
The Chair will also run and oversee the Fall and Spring SLS Elections. They will host Candidate meetings, Candidate Speeches and anything else that is necessary during that time. The Chair will recruit 2-4 DROs to work with them in ensuring that rules are maintained and followed.
The Chair will also run and oversee referendum matters, if needed. These are followed as per the Constitution and By-laws.
SLS Online Administrator and Webmaster

The SLS online administrator is responsible for scheduling SLS meetings and organizing the SLS OneDrive. The Webmaster Maintains the SLS website.
This position is ideal for an individual who is organized and attentive to details.
SLS Instagram

This individual is responsible to run SLS’s Instagram account. The Instagram account updates students on all SLS matters as well as provides Windsor Law clubs and committees a place to promote and post their events.
Ideal for an individual who is well versed with Instagram and is passionate about sharing with the rest of the school all SLS clubs and committee events happening at the school and in the community.
Social Committee

The SLS Social Committee is responsible for generating revenue for other clubs and committees by hosting social events (Ideally 4-5 per semester on Thursdays). Since the social committee does not have a budget, it relies on free venues that can accommodate the entire student body (in order to bring in as much money as possible). Some of the social events are run in conjunction with other clubs (such as Movember, Grad Committee, etc.) in order to help them with their initiatives. Responsibilities include:
Booking venues (Chairs)
Submitting insurance forms, if required (Chairs)
Promotion and marketing through posters and social media (Chairs and members)
Collecting cover on the night of (Chairs and members)
This position is ideal for individuals who are personable and organized.
Social Orientation Committee

Social Orientation Committee organizes various social events during the first month of school and 1L orientation week to help welcome the incoming 1Ls. The planning and booking of venues must be done in the summer. Social Orientation helps generate funds for clubs and events held throughout the year.
Responsibilities include:
Ensuring funds are raised for the events and managing the Social Orientation budget
Booking venues for events (including the Toronto Meet & Greet in July)
Managing Social Orientation volunteers and responding to questions and concerns relating to the events
Attendance at most, if not all, Social Orientation events is mandatory for the head chair and co-chairs.
This position is ideal for individuals who are personable and are interested in welcoming the class of 2025.
Speakers Committee

The Speakers Committee coordinates speakers’ events on behalf of the SLS. The committee secures guest speakers and organizes speaking events for Windsor Law Students. The purpose of these events is to add educational value to the experiences of faculty and students, and also to raise the profile of Windsor Law. The Committee also supports other clubs with their speaker events by arranging for catering, providing gifts, etc.
This committee is ideal for individuals who are good at networking and are passionate about putting Windsor Law on the map.
Zuber Moot
The Zuber Moot Committee is comprised of the 4 finalists from the prior year. They are charged with planning one of Windsor's oldest traditions - the annual Zuber Moot competition for 2nd and 3rd-year students. Individuals on the committee are unable to participate in the moot. As per Zuber tradition, the four finalists from 2021-2022 serve as chairs on the committee. Additional members will be needed to help with the committee’s work.
This is ideal for individuals who are passionate about moots.
